Fronius increases inverter efficiencies
(09.19.2005)
Santa Barbara, CA.
Fronius USA Solar Electronics Division, a world leader in power
electronics, announced that it has increased the efficiency of its
inverters. Fronius has incorporated recent advancements in power
electronics that limit internal losses, thereby yielding a higher
conversion efficiency and improved system performance.
Additionally, Fronius has completed testing
of the FRONIUS IG inverters with these enhancements resulting in new
California Energy Commission (CEC) efficiency and power ratings for the
FRONIUS IG series:

“Fronius is constantly
looking to the latest innovations in the field of power electronics to
apply to our solar inverters, ” says Christoph Panhuber, Director of
the Solar Electronics Division at Fronius.
The new components that Fronius is using improve reliability and
decrease heat generated due to internal loses, thereby increasing the
amount of electricity harvested from the solar array. The
principal design concept for the FRONIUS IG inverters has always been
focused on optimizing the total system’s energy output.
“Increased efficiency, accurate maximum power point tracking, reduced
thermal fold back by using active cooling, increased reliability and
extended system operation time – these are all part of what the
FRONIUS IG inverters do to increase solar energy harvest.”
These changes benefit those using the whole FRONIUS IG Series, but
particularly those using the 5000 Class units. As the only
inverters in their size range with an extensive track record in the
field, their increased efficiency reinforces their value to installers
and end-users alike. The FRONIUS IG Series includes units ranging
between 2.0 and 5.1 kW. At 26 and 42 lbs., the FRONIUS IG inverters are
between one-third and half the weight of competing inverters.
Built-in DC and AC disconnects eliminate the need for external breakers
in many cases, reducing total system costs. FRONIUS IG inverters come
standard with an integrated LCD where the installer can view and record
over 20 parameters pertaining to inverter and system operation. Optional
remote data communications and data logging features can easily be added
via Plug-n-Play cards to transform FRONIUS IG inverters into a
sophisticated data acquisition system and weather station.
