Process arm peripheral: CMT torch now on hollow arm

19.08.2009

If one listens to welding automation experts, the future of arc welding lies with hollow-arm robots. In addition to the numerous advantages offered by this new generation of robots, the welding equipment used is a key factor if the very best welding results are to be achieved – and it’s here that Fronius has opted for the combination of CMT torch and hollow arm.

The system itself remains unchanged. What is new is the integration of the hosepack and wire feeder in the hollow arm. The development of the process arm peripheral gives the welder unhindered access to the component, optimised media routing for a stable welding process and the ability to perform simulations completely offline.

The fact that the torch hosepack is integrated in the process arm makes awkward locations on the component accessible and permits faster reorientation to meet the requirements of the design. A stable welding process has been achieved in part by improving path accuracy and handling, as there is now no whiplash between the torch hosepack and interconnecting hosepack. It’s now also possible to perform a simulation completely offline. There are no longer any problems with interference profiles, which means that virtually identical results can be achieved.

The product portfolio of process arm peripherals was expanded in July 2009 to include the new Robacta Drive CMT torch.
